The state of safety before restoration:
The entire surface of the picture was broken by a hard soil craquelure with raised edges. Thin, blown canvas could not hold the craquelure in the plane. This created a threat of scree and chips on the raised edges of the cracked colorful layer. The complex relief of the surface broken by craquelure interfered with the perception of the image of the picture. The shrinkage and weakness of the canvas provoked further strengthening of craquelure and fractures. The colorful layer at the edges of Krakelura lost contact with the soil and places with the base, began to exfoliate, which created a threat of screech. As a result, significant loss of a colorful layer at the edges appeared.
Complex of the events:
During the restoration process, a difficult task was to strengthen the colorful layer and restore its connection with the soil and the basis, measures were taken to lay hard raised edges of Krakelura in the plane. In order to fix the achieved result, the basis was strengthened by duplicating the author’s canvas on the new canvas. The picture is stretched over the subframe. Restoration soil was brought into the places of loss of the colorful layer. In conclusion, restoration tinting was performed within the boundaries of loss in accordance with the author’s color of painting.
