Soroka (Vasiliev) Grigory Vasilievich (1823–1864)
Painter, landscape painter, portrait painter.
Born in the d. Pokrovskaya Tver province. Serf, lived in the estate "Islands" landowner n. P. Milyukov, performing the duties of a gardener. From 1842 he studied with a. G. Venetianov in the d. Saphonkovo Tver province. Since the late 1850s he has been painting with students from serfs. Venetinov failed to achieve his liberation. Received personal freedom only as a result of reform 1861. He committed suicide after he was sentenced to bodily punishment as a result of a lawsuit with his former master.
