The ceremonial exit of Emperor Nicholas I is depicted in the stamp hall of the Winter Palace on the day of the Epiphany (Baptism) of the Lord January 6 (19), 1854. For baptism (Epiphany), after a prayer service in the Great Church of the Winter Palace, the so -called Highest Exit was made – a solemn court ceremony – the procession of the imperial family and courtiers in the presence of numerous invited. The procession, led by the procession, descended along the Jordanian (ceremonial) staircase and went to the Neva, where water was consecrated in a special ice hole.
