The artist is Popov
Andrey Popov was a typical representative of the Moscow landscape school. His work is directly related to images of the Russian province. The “Village Court” presumably belongs to the number of works for which the artist in 1861 received a small gold medal. Attentive attitude to peasant life, naturalistic description, “story” about the daily life of the village inhabitants are characteristic of Russian painting of the 1860s.
