The theme of the heavy existence of destitute children was widespread in Russian art of the mid -19th century. In the picture of Perova „Orphans in the cemetery “This plot develops into a deep social generalization. In the work, apparently, the pathos of denunciation is also present to the post-Paris period of the painter’s work, and at the same time it is permeated with sympathy and empathy for the characters of his work.
